Moto G 5G

Hello Everyone… Motorola has finally launched their 5G enabled smartphone the “Moto G 5G” priced at Rs.20,999/-(6GB+128GB), with the tag line “the most affordable 5G smartphone” and “5G” being the keyword. The overall specification includes a 5G supporting Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G Processor, triple main camera set-up and a 16.94 cm (6.67 inch) Full HD+ Display.

It’s a interesting offering at this price bracket , but sure to be rivaled by likes of Realme 7 Pro, OnePlus Nord, Samsung Galaxy M51, even the old Redmi K20. Lets find about whether being 5G is the biggest plus point or the overall package of Moto G 5G is worth the price?

Build and Design

Moto G G5 is comes with good quality polycarbonate glossy body and in hand feel is good. Interestingly the smartphone has IP5 rating protection, which is really good at this price. Finger print scanner on the back with Moto Logo and triple camera with flash light sum up in the square bump on the back panel. Front has punch hole display for selfie camera setup. The phones weighs a bit on higher side with 210 g, but weight distribution is good.

This comes in two color variants namely Volcanic Grey and Frosted Silver.

On the sides, the usual volume button, on-off and a dedicated Google assistant key. There is bottom mounted speakers and mic and secondary mic on top for noise cancellation. A usual type-C port for fast charging. The overall design is typical Moto style.

Moto G 5G comes with 16.94 cm (6.67 inch) Full HD+ HDR 10 Max vision display. Resolution of 2400 x 1080 Pixels with 20:9 Display Aspect Ratio. No Super AMOLED and display 60 Hz display. Quality is really good though. It has Widevine L1 certification.

Camera

Motorola has gone ahead with triple camera setup of 48MP + 8MP + 2MP on back and single camera setup of 16MP Front Camera (f/2.25, 1.12um). The main camera 48MP Sensor (12MP Output, (f/1.79, 1.6um) with Quad Pixel Technology), 8MP wide angle and 2MP macro shorts.

The camera UI is clean and customs options available. There is usual camera software features of Nightscape, Panorama, Portrait Mode, Time-lapse Photography, HDR, Ultra Wide, Ultra Macro, AI Scene Recognition, AI Beauty, Filter, Chroma Boost. Slow Motion Video, Timelapse Video, Hyperlapse Video.

The front camera is a decent single selfie camera of 16 megapixel sensor with Night support and can shots Slow Motion.

Processor, Storage and Performance

Moto G 5G will be the first smartphone with Octa core 2.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G Processor, which supports all 11 bands of 5G network. So it’s future ready in this regard. Performance wise this 750 G processor is better than 765 actually. Don’t know why Qualcomm has named it the other way around.

In RAM, there will be only 1 version of 6GB. The internal storage support of 128 GB can be expanded upto huge 1 TB micro SD slot. But on downside there is hybrid card slot. You can accommodate either two nano sims or one sim and micro SD card.

Operating System/ Software

Moto G 5G promised to give you ad free, bloatware free pure Android experience comes with Android 10 and further updates of Android 11 has been assured. The UI is clean and responsive. There are some customizable option with My Moto app.

Battery

Out of the box Moto G 5G comes with 20 Watt Turbo charger and 5000 mAH capacity battery, which will give you enough juice to run throughout the day.

Connectivity and Network

Main highlight of this smartphone is 5G support of 11 global bands. There is support dual VolTe with all usual connectivity options. NFC and Bluetooth version 5.1 support is also there and can offer good call quality.

Conclusion

Motorola in the recent past come up with some exciting offerings and Moto G 5G is another one in the series. This has all required specs and features for a 20K phone plus 5G support being the biggest highlight. Regarding 5G phones in India, it’s still not sure how and when will be 5G launched in India, a 5G Phone might sound catchy , but it’s real use still remains distant possibility.
